Getting to know the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires keeps visitors from all over world awake, because not only is this the most cosmopolitan urban center in South America but it is also the most beautiful and coquettish.
Federal District of the Republic of Argentina, Buenos Aires is bathed by the Río de la Plata(River of Silver) on the East, it borders on the famous Riachuelo to the South, whereas the rest of the metropolitan perimeter is outlined by the beltway known as General Paz Avenue, which fringes the city from North to West.
Buenos Aires has temperate climate and the annual average temperature is 18º C. Winter temperatures range between 3º and 8º C, whereas summers are humid with average temperatures of 28º C.
From abroad, Buenos Aires is reached through its International Airport, located in the District of Ezeiza, whereas domestic flights operate at the Jorge Newbery Airfield. In turn, several points in the city are connected into an important subway network and over a hundred bus lines join the city with the rest of the Districts in Greater Buenos Aires. Access to Buenos Aires from the Eastern Republic of Uruguay is managed through vessels, ferries and cruises that cross the river.
Known as "la Reina del Plata" (the Queen of the Río de la Plata), the City of Buenos Aires is characterized by having multiple artistic and cultural expressions that amaze tourists on their tours.
The most visited destinations in the beautiful city include the San Telmo Market, La Boca neighborhood, Costanera Sur, the center of town with the obelisk and the Tigre delta, a few kilometers away from the urban center.
The tours and excursions that denote the strong cosmopolitan spirit of Buenos Aires are Caminito, Recoleta, the Boca Stadium, the Mataderos Market, the Botanic Garden, the Zoo, the Japanese Garden and Holy Land, first religious theme park in the world.
Other sites of remarkable cultural and historical interest are the Cabildo, the Government House, the Cathedral, the Town Hall, the Obelisk, the Colón Theater, la Manzana de las Luces (Block of the Lights) and the Planetarium, an emblematic site in the memory of all children in Buenos Aires.
In the evenings, “the city that never sleeps” is open to concerts, shows, theaters, cinemas, casinos, discos, coffee-shops and pubs that make visitors stay up until the small hours.
For all these reasons, Buenos Aires opens up to a wide range of entertainment options.

Caminito La Boca

La Boca (the mouth) was originally the first Buenos Aires harbor. It was called that way in reference to theRiachuelo, which would empty into the Río de la Plata in the shape of a big mouth.

It used to be a place where many Italian immigrants, especially from Genoa, would settle down to build their houses on high sidewalks due to frequent floods.

Among these immigrant families, were the parents of painter Benito Quinquela Martín, who in spite of not being his biological parents, took care of him and raised him in La Boca surrounded by the smell of theRiachuelo, the colorful houses and the high sidewalks. Later on, young Quinquela would start his work as an artist by painting marvelous portraits of the harbor sceneries from his childhood.

DRINK MATE

Yerba mate (pronounced in two syllables, 'MAH-tae') is a traditional Argentine herbal drink, prepared in a hollowed-out gourd which is passed around in a social setting and drunk through a metal straw.

Though usually drunk hot, mate can also be served cold, usually known as "tereré". Terere is prefered by the populace in Uruguay and Paraguay. Mate contains less caffeine than coffee, but contains other vitamins and minerals that give it a stimulating effect, particularly to those who are not used to it. It is naturally rather bitter, so it's not uncommon to add sugar. The drinking of mate with friends is an important social ritual in Argentina.

The informal tea ceremony is lead by a "cebador" or server and people arrange themselves in a "rueda" or wheel. Those who like the drink bitter and those who like it sweet are clustered together to aide the server.

When you make the decision to live abroad for a semester there are a lot of factors that go into the decision: can you speak the language, will you be able to make friends abroad, do they offer your major in the programs available, can you finance study abroad, where will you live, etc.

The following is the map of the top study abroad locations for American students:

WINE: Malbec is king in Argentina

Some of the most picturesque vineyard photos usually include snapshots of Argentina with the Andes looming in the background.
This area just east of the mountains is home to some of the highest altitude vineyards in the world. It is also one of the driest, with usually less than 10 inches of rain a year.

There is ample sunshine to ripen grapes in the region.
Grape growing has been important in the region since a flood of European immigrants appeared in the early 1800s. It really took off following the development of a railroad to Mendoza, the premier wine region. This region continues today to be the source of most of the wine produced in Argentina.
Until the early 1990s, the majority of the wine produced was simple bulk type, but with the entry into the world wine market, and particularly the United States, one grape type has put Argentina on the map — malbec.
This grape caught the attention of a growing number of wine consumers as a red wine with a depth of flavor at a reasonable price. While cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay grapes are starting to get critical attention, it is still malbec that sets the tone for Argentine wines.

Latin America tempts interns

Buenos Aires, Argentina (CNN) -- Mary Bonsor graduated from law school in London last June and is now navigating her way around the labyrinth-like offices of Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal, Argentina's largest law firm.
Bonsor, 24, is spending two months interning at the firm in Buenos Aires with hopes of learning more about Argentine law, while also honing her Spanish-speaking skills.
"It is very interesting to compare the English system to the Argentinean system. It's just great experience to see how another judicial system works," says Bonsor.
Bonsor is one of a growing number of international graduates and students looking to Latin America for internship experience to bolster their resumes. They say they are being lured here by the region´s relatively strong and stable economies, low costs, and the chance to work alongside top business, scientific and creative minds.
According to student travel company STA, the international internship market is the fastest growing trend in travel right now. Historically, cities like New York, London and Hong Kong were top choices for interns, but now Buenos Aires, Bogota and Santiago are seeing an influx.

Sri Lanka and Argentina tipped as the hottest ‘up and coming’ holiday destinations

Five countries known as ‘the SLIMMA nations’ are the next big emerging tourism destinations to look out for, travel experts say.

Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico and Argentina have been identified for their growth potential and as tourist hotspots to rival the BRIC nations – Brazil, Russia, India and China – according to The World Travel Market 2011 Industry Report.

The report highlighted Sri Lanka’s natural beauty and investment in infrastructure as the country re-emerges after years of civil war, while Indonesia was credited for its diversity and growing population with high levels of disposable income.
Malaysia, which is seen as an Asian destination with a more Westernised feel than nearby countries, was singled out in the report for its aggressive tourism marketing campaigns around the world, while Mexico’s investment in hotels and infrastructure and its low taxes were also highlighted.

Argentina was tipped as an ‘up and coming’ value-for-money holiday destination, which has seen strong economic growth.
In last year’s report, the BRICS nations were named one of the biggest growth opportunities, with China and Russia seen as the most important tourism markets.
